Anthony Olmo for District 1 City Council
No longer a business vs. government mindset, but a true partnership focused on how best can we stimulate the district creating more jobs and higher average wages. Eliminating needless rules designed to hurt rather than help growing businesses. Fair slate.
Make housing cheaper and easier to build, cutting out the meticulous fees associated with building houses and creating more affordable housing for purchasing and business space for rent.
Providing opportunities for the entrepreneurs to have an actual shot at success, and no longer having the norm of a thriving business open and close within a year.
It is time to remind our government officials who they are meant to support, the entire district. Our incumbent councilmember did not mention Pacific Beach once in 14 pages of budget documentation for the initial and final district budget priority for 2023 regarding neighborhood improvements. The final district priority plan featured 10 line items allocated to neighborhood improvement funding completely OUTSIDE of District 1 for a total of $10,246,000. There are an additional 9 line items for $6,346,252 allocated to city-wide initiative requests. La Jolla received 5 line items requested for $3,461,400 and Universty City received 1 line item requested for $250,000. Pacific Beach, Del Mar, and Carmel Valley received $0. Read the budget priority plans for yourself;
How many of you have hit a growing pothole on the way to work only and thought "The city should fix that" only to hit that same pothole every day for the next 6-8 months? I know I have every day on the rollercoaster that is Ingraham Street on my way to work. There is either a major lack of budget allocation, planning, or an absence of caring.
There have been over 1,770 people who have died from fentanyl overdose in San Diego County since 2019 according to CBS8. My priorities would be to partner with and support law enforcement on the front lines of the drug and crime pandemic as they continue to keep San Diego safe and hold themselves to a high standard of service. No longer should we worry about our friends, family, and loved ones not being aware of the dangers these drugs bring.
Creating a lasting solution to reducing the homeless population through actions of empathy and care. Providing the homeless of our district with access to mental health services, drug/alcohol abuse treatment, and job search tools. Removing the encampments around the district for safer and cleaner public spaces, reduced crime, and less disease.
Our campaign is fundamentally based on supporting San Diego's number one asset, its people. How can the local government best help you, your family, your property, and your business? What changes do you want to see made in your community? How can the local city government make a positive impact on your life? Where are we falling short? I want to hear from you, and together let's take action.
